Bye Bye Blackheads n’ Pores with Origins Charcoal Mask

Due to many recommendations and good reviews, I finally got the Origins Active Charcoal Mask for my skin cleansing routine. I have a lot of blackheads and pores galore on my nose and I was hoping some solution would rid it once and for all.

“When environmental toxins, dirt and debris get under your skin, its waste-filtering system gets jammed, pores get clogged, skin looks cloudy. Nature’s complexion clean-up crew gets to the bottom of skins overcast condition and clears the way for it to act its best. Activated Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers, White China Clay absorbs environmental toxins, Lecithin dissolves impurities. Without all that “stuff” down there, skin “breathes a sigh of relief.”
HOW TO USE: Once a week or as often as needed, open pores with warm, moist towel and layer mask on. Allow to dry, rinse well. Watch your skin shake off the shroud of dullness and take on a new clarity.”

The mask is a goopy grey colour, and I cover an even layer across my nose, and wait approximately 15-20 minutes for it to dry. It is easily rinsed, and my nose feels refreshing afterwards.

I was really excited when I first tried this product. After using it twice a week, I didn’t notice any vast improvements. I went to Sephora and asked the sales associate for any pore reducing solutions and the first thing she said was “what pores?!” I told her about the concerns I have and she said I didn’t need to buy anything new. I told her I had the Origins Mask, but it didn’t seem to work. So she gave me a new suggestion- and I have noticed a visible difference in reducing blackheads.Since it worked so well, I’m sharing it with all my readers and anyone passing by.

The sales associate said to use the mask consecutively for three days. On the third day, after putting on the mask, then cleansing the mask, extract the pores. (The sales associate said that although they tell people not to extract, we do so anyway.) After extraction, put the mask on again for 5 minutes, then rinse the mask. Because using the mask so much can dry out the nose, she said to use a hydrating mask after on the nose. I got a sample of Clarins HydraQuench Cream Mask to use post clay mask cleansing. I found the mask a bit tickly, so I have been using Laneige Strawberry Yogurt Mask Pack. (Full review on Laneige mask pack next time!)

After this intense cleansing routine, go back to using the mask 1-2 times per week. If you see a sudden increase in blackheads again, use the mask again for 3 days consecutively.

I have noticed a huge change with this routine. I see a significantly less number of pores and blackheads. Sometimes when I blot my nose during the day, I also see less oil compared to before. I have been using the mask twice a week now to keep it clear and clean. My nose did get dry easily, but using Laneige Strawberry Yogurt Mask + moisturizer after did the trick.

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask has definitely found a place in my skincare routine. I’ve used it for about a month, and the tube still looks like I never used it at all! I can forsee using the product for a long time. Clean skin, here I come!

Do you have any skincare products you swear by? How do you clean your pores?

  1. I don’t plan on buying the Origins mask because there is a wide array of charcoal masks on the Asian market for cheaper but I will definitely be trying out that mask regimen with something I already have. Do you use your fingers to extract?

  2. I bought the Origins mask too! (And just like you, I have been seeing smoother, softer skin, but not that good for blackhead extractions.) So glad I read your blog! And thanks for the tip! I will def try it out and see if it works for me!! ^^
